1 oz American Gold Eagle Coin Overview
American Gold Eagles are some of the most popular gold bullion coins in the world. American Eagles from the US Mint are part of a series that includes silver and platinum coins as well. When introduced by the United States Mint in 1986, The American Gold Eagles became the official gold bullion coins of the United States.
On the obverse side of American Gold Eagle coins is the image of Lady Liberty. It was originally created in 1907 for use on the $20 Gold Double Eagle Coin, by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, as President Theodore Roosevelt favored Saint-Gaudens as the artist to design American gold coins. The reverse side of all American Gold Eagles features a depiction of a bald eagle that is unique to bullion coins.
Miley Busiek’s design depicts the theme of both protection and nurturing. Protection by the male bald eagle as he watches over the family nest. Nurturing as the female cares for the nest full of chicks.
