About OWNx

Amid the global financial meltdown, co-founders Jeremy Brakenhoff and Josh McCleary realized the playing field was tilted. Large investors could buy 1,000 oz silver bars at 30–40% lower prices than everyone else – an unfair advantage they felt had to change. In November 2008, they formed Mass Metal LLC (the company that would become OWNx) with a bold vision: use technology to give small investors the same access and pricing as big institutions.

After a year of development, the team launched SilverSaver.com in December 2009 – the first online platform where anyone, no matter their budget, could buy a fractional share of those same large silver bars. For the first time, individuals were able to automatically save in physical silver. The concept took off, and by mid-2010, people in all 50 U.S. states were using SilverSaver to build their precious metal savings.

As our community grew, we quickly expanded beyond silver. In 2011 we introduced gold on the SilverSaver platform, allowing members to accumulate gold in the same convenient way. That year we also launched an innovative workplace savings program, letting employers offer precious metals investing via payroll deduction. And we didn’t stop at the U.S.: in 2011 we opened up service to Canadian investors, extending the opportunity across borders.

In May 2012, we introduced live 24×7 pricing and trading for physical metals. Unlike traditional dealers with limited hours, our users gained the freedom to buy or sell their gold and silver anytime, with instant order execution. (Fun fact: In July 2012, the SilverSaver logo even made an appearance on a NASCAR race car, as we sponsored driver Blake Koch at Daytona!)

With the platform now offering both gold and silver, our original “SilverSaver” name had become too narrow. In 2015, we rebranded the company as OWNx – emphasizing ownership (you’re in control of your wealth) and the variable “X” for the many assets and possibilities of come. This year we also launched the OWNx Precious Metals IRA, integrating our real-time trading technology with self-directed IRA custodians. For the first time ever, investors could buy and sell physical precious metals within an IRA around the clock – a process that used to be painfully slow and cumbersome. Solving this industry problem was a game-changer for retirement savers.

By our 10th anniversary, OWNx had helped thousands of people acquire precious metals the smart way. We stayed profitable and secure through volatile markets, never losing a single ounce of customer metal. Our commitment to “Smart, Simple, and Patient” growth earned us trust and a loyal client base that continues to expand.

We don’t rest on past achievements. In early 2024, we unveiled a next-generation Precious Metals IRA with zero premiums and no minimum investment, making it easier than ever to include gold, silver, platinum, and palladium in your retirement plan. By this time, OWNx had grown to over 32,000 account holders with more than $300 million in transactions completed on our platform – all built on word-of-mouth and a reputation for fairness.

In April 2025, we launched OWNx EDGE, an industry-first membership that lets investors buy gold, silver, and platinum at true wholesale cost for a low monthly fee.. EDGE eliminates the 5–25% markups charged by traditional dealers, fulfilling our promise to put more metal in our customers’ hands for every dollar they invest. The response was overwhelming, and it solidified OWNx’s role as a disruptor in the precious metals space.

In June 2025, as part of our mission to make precious metals accessible to everyone, we announced free lifetime OWNx EDGE memberships for all U.S. military members and veteran. It’s our way of giving back to those who serve – ensuring that the people who protect our country can also protect their wealth without any unnecessary fees or barriers. This initiative, deeply aligned with our values of trust and integrity, is one we’re especially proud of.
